AMERICAN LEAGUE “WHITE” (Grades 6th, 7th and 8th)
This division (4 teams) will play at full (or slightly modified) American Softball Association (ASA) rules. The AL “White” Tryout is tentatively scheduled for Sunday, March 14th at Westfield High School. 2009/2010 8th Graders (if they choose to play in the “White” Division but may still select to play in the “Blue” Division) and Players that were selected to play in the White Division in Spring, 2009 ARE NOT REQUIRED TO ATTEND TRYOUTS—the will automatically be placed in the “White” Division.
Please note that due to limited capacity, American League “White” registration (after the February 1 on time deadline) may close earlier then all other GSLW leagues even with the late registration fee. Advance notification of earlier closing of American League “White” registration will be posted on the website so please check back at WestfieldSoftball.org for the latest news and information.
AMERICAN LEAGUE “BLUE” (grades 6th, 7th and 8th)
This division (6 teams) will play with the amended In-Town League rules that the AL league played last Spring, 2009.Players interested in this division should register under "In-Town Recreational League" and mark the appropriate grade in the registration form.
Once players have registered/been assigned “White” or “Blue”, then the assigned Head Coaches for these 2 divisions will hold a draft and draft within these player pools only. Head Coaches drafting in these (and now for ALL GSLW Drafts) will no longer be choosing Asst. Coaches (and the subsequent players that come with that coach) prior to the draft. If a Coach desires a specific Asst. Coach--they will need to draft that player early in the draft process to secure that Asst. Coach.
NATIONAL LEAGUE (Grades 4th & 5th)
This league will continue to play one division under the same In-Town rules that were played in the Spring, 2009 season.
INSTRUCTIONAL LEAGUES (Grades Kindergarten-3rd)
The Instructional League for Spring 2010 will be broken down to 4 divisions by individual grade. Each division will practice together in a clinic format run by trained GSLW Coaches. Players from the same team will move together through the stations so that they can develop camaraderie and cohesiveness.
All games will be played on Saturdays.
Kindergarteners would play @ McKinley School.
1st graders will play @ Franklin School.
2nd graders will play @ 1:30PM @ Memorial.
3rd graders will play @ 4PM @ Memorial.
Kindergarten games will be T-Ball games with coach pitch introduced at the end of the season. Outs will not be recorded, players will remain on base whether safe or out and all players will bat.
1st graders will play under slightly modified rules beginning with T-ball and progressing to coach pitch at mid-season. Outs will not be recorded, players will remain on base whether safe or out and all players will bat.
2nd graders will play under coach pitch for the entire season. Outs will be recorded and executed (runner does not remain on base if out), but still let everyone bat.
3rd graders will play under modified in-town competitive league rules. The modified rules will begin with coach pitch with a gradual evolution to player/coach pitch in a “simulated” competitive game. Game scores will be kept announcing winners and losers of each game.
